Unidentified men attack RSS worker

Bangalore, Aug 14, 2014, DHNS:
A worker of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was assaulted by unidentified armed men near NTI Layout road under Vidyaranyapura police limits on Thursday morning.

According to the police, Phanindra, 40, a resident of Defence Colony in Vidyaranyapura, was riding a motorcycle to a nearby ground to attend an RSS ‘shakha’ when four people on the roadside waylaid him before assaulting him with weapons. The attackers fled when passersby rushed to his rescue. He was then taken to a hospital and is out of danger.

Phanindra told the Vidyaranyapura police at the hospital that he had no clue about the attackers. The police suspect an old rivalry to be the cause of attack. They have registered a case and are tracing the attackers.

In the evening, RSS activists staged a protest near the Vidyaranyapura bus stand, seeking immediate arrest of the attackers. They also submitted a memorandum to T R Suresh, DCP (North).

RSS leaders claimed that in 2008, another activist was attacked in a similar manner in Vidyaranyapura while he was on his way to a RSS ‘shakha’ in the morning.

“The police did not arrest anyone even in the 2008 case. “We suspect that a particular group could be behind both the attacks,” said a senior RSS leader in charge of Sangh activities in Bangalore.
